Shortlist CroisiEurope if you want a French river the North American lines do not sell, or a French company sailing it. Its current France page lists the Seine, the Loire, the Rhône and Saône, and the Garonne, Gironde and Dordogne; it describes itself as an independent family-owned French company; and The Loire Valley, a Royal Legacy aboard MS Loire Princesse is the one multi-day Loire cabin cruise we have checked.

What it does well on French rivers

  • The Loire, and the boat that makes it possible

    The Loire Valley, a Royal Legacy is a current 2026/2027 product sailing aboard MS Loire Princesse, whose paddle-wheel navigation the operator describes as exclusive to CroisiEurope. It is the reason a Loire cabin cruise exists at all.56

  • Routes published as sequences

    Three of the four France programmes publish the places they call at in order, and the fourth names them without fixing the order. Either way that is more than most operators put on a programme page, and it is exactly what you need in order to judge whether a week suits you.2345

  • A French company on French rivers

    CroisiEurope describes itself as an independent family-owned French company, and its current France page emphasises intimate ships and local cuisine.1

  • The smallest ship we cover

    MS Loire Princesse publishes 94 passengers in 47 cabins. At 94 passengers, it is the smallest published ship capacity among the France ships in our comparison.7

    CroisiEurope pages can describe a displayed price as all-inclusive while a separate footnote excludes supplements, transport, transfers, fees, taxes and optional services. Neither statement is wrong; together they mean the headline is not the total.15

  • Two programmes share almost the same name

    CroisiEurope publishes a Royal Legacy Loire programme at two different addresses, and they are not the same product. The five-day port-to-port programme described here is the one on the loire-valley-royal-legacy page; the other page presents a different route and a different length. Check the address of the page in front of you rather than the title on it: the titles will not tell them apart.58

  • We do not repeat the ranking claim

    CroisiEurope describes its own standing in the European market in terms we are not going to restate as though they were our finding. What we can verify is the company description, the waterways it lists and the ship figures on its own pages — and that is what this profile publishes.1

One honest alternative. Compare it with Viking or Uniworld if what you actually want is a North American onboard experience with a published inclusion list you can normalise against a competitor’s.

Where two lines are genuinely close on a French river, and on the Seine and at Bordeaux several of them are, we say they are close rather than manufacturing a winner.

The order that works, in our experience, is: pick the river, decide how you want the day ashore arranged, then normalise two fares against the same list of inclusions before you look at either headline number. Availability in the month you can travel usually makes the final call anyway.
